1891   Hapeville is named for Dr. Samuel Hape, a dentist who served as the first mayor.  Hape had served as an officer in the Confederate Army.

1899   Georgia Baptist Children’s Home opens on the site that is currently known as Jess Lucas Park.

1907   Asa Candler, jr. purchases acreage in hapeville to build an oval automobile race track (for landing itinerant aircraft).

1907  "Hapeville Academy" becomes Hapeville School and is placed under Fulton County board of education.

1911   The streetcar line is extended to Hapeville from Atlanta and fuels a real estate boom.

1919   The racetrack is leased for use as an airfield.

1921   Chapman Drug Store opens on Central Avenue.

1932   Hapeville City Council pens a letter to the airport manager asking him to please stop covering Hapeville with dust ...
and please stop testing engines at night so Hapeville citizens can get some sleep!

1941   Delta Airlines moves their general offices to Atlanta.

1947   Ford Motor Company opens assembly plant in Hapeville.

1947   Truett Cathy opens the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville … which later become the Dwarf House …
which was the original Chick-fil-A.

1976   Jeff Foxworthy graduates from Hapeville High School.

2006   Ford Motor Co. closes the Hapeville Assembly Plant. The plant built the Taurus, which will be phased out.
