1891
Hapeville is named for Dr. Samuel Hape, a dentist who served as the first mayor. Hape had served as an officer in the Confederate Army.
1899
Georgia Baptist Children’s Home opens on the site that is currently known as Jess Lucas Park.
1907
Asa Candler, jr. purchases acreage in hapeville to build an oval automobile race track (for landing itinerant aircraft).
1907 "Hapeville Academy" becomes Hapeville School and is placed under Fulton County board of education.
1911
The streetcar line is extended to Hapeville from Atlanta and fuels a real estate boom.
1919
The racetrack is leased for use as an airfield. |
